The article “Before I Go”
is Paul Kalanithi explaining what he wants to do before he dies and he wants to
live long enough, so that his daughter will remember him. He is a neurosurgical
training at Stanford University but he was diagnosed with metastatic lung
cancer. Paul says he started to get symptoms as the time went on. he enjoyed
being in the OR because he knew what to do and when to do it. Paul also knew
the strategies of what you should do as a surgeon. In the article “My Marriage
didn’t end When I came a Widow” Lucy Kalanithi talks about how she was emotionally
when he died. Lucy felt like she couldn’t live her life without him. Lucy and
Paul met in 2003 as first-year medical students at Stanford University. They got married and 10 years
after they met Paul’s health level had began to fall. They had planned to go to
Portugal for their 20th anniversary, where they spent their
honeymoon but when they found out about Paul’s heath they immediately went. Paul was getting weaker every day the
chemotherapy was coming out of his skin, it was very painful and he couldn’t do
what he wanted. Paul started to write about
training as a neurosurgeon and then learning that he had only a year or two to
live, which led to a book proposal. They had a daughter named Cady and Paul
wanted to spend his last with his family. Lucy couldn’t sleep very well without Paul and she always tried to sleep with the pillow that he died on to sleep
better. One day she went out to where he was buried and rested next to him and got
some sleep because she knew that he was laying right next to her. Lucy began to
start moving on by taking her wedding ring off 6 months later she thinks it was
time.
I personally think that Lucy was a very loyal wife to Paul but there is always a time to move on.
ReplyDeleteLove how you added they wanted to go back to Portugal for the 20th Anniversary.
