The article “Before I Go”
is Paul Kalanithi explaining what he wants to do before he dies and he wants to
live long enough, so that his daughter will remember him. He is a neurosurgical
training at Stanford University but he was diagnosed with metastatic lung
cancer. Paul says he started to get symptoms as the time went on. he enjoyed
being in the OR because he knew what to do and when to do it. Paul also knew
the strategies of what you should do as a surgeon. In the article “My Marriage
didn’t end When I came a Widow” Lucy Kalanithi talks about how she was emotionally
when he died. Lucy felt like she couldn’t live her life without him. Lucy and
Paul met in 2003 as first-year medical students at Stanford University. They got married and 10 years
after they met Paul’s health level had began to fall. They had planned to go to
Portugal for their 20th anniversary, where they spent their
honeymoon but when they found out about Paul’s heath they immediately went. Paul was getting weaker every day the
chemotherapy was coming out of his skin, it was very painful and he couldn’t do
what he wanted. Paul started to write about
training as a neurosurgeon and then learning that he had only a year or two to
live, which led to a book proposal. They had a daughter named Cady and Paul
wanted to spend his last with his family. Lucy couldn’t sleep very well without Paul and she always tried to sleep with the pillow that he died on to sleep
better. One day she went out to where he was buried and rested next to him and got
some sleep because she knew that he was laying right next to her. Lucy began to
start moving on by taking her wedding ring off 6 months later she thinks it was
time.

The day that changed my life
There was a day that changed my life. My sister passed away in September
which is the month of her birthday her birthday is September 24. That day was a
wonderful day for her because she wanted to have all her family there for her
birthday and they came and celebrated with her on her special day. There was
family all around where she was so I really couldn’t get to her like I wanted
to and my mind was somewhere else it was my schoolwork I had to take a test
online and I was very upset about it because I could’ve been with my sister
spending time with her. I got done with my test and I tried to go sit by her
for a little while so we could talk but it was a lot of noise in the background
so we just sat there. I went outside to go spend some time with the family I’ve
been outside most of the time until it was time to sing happy birthday to her.
She couldn’t have the cake smashed in her face because of her oxygen so I did
for her. When we were singing happy birthday to her she had a good spirit and
was dancing like she always did. Somehow, she knew that it was her last day to
be with us. I was too busy being outside with the rest of the family that I
didn’t really have time to spend the day with my sister. Something told me to
leave the house and go to the store or something so I did and on the way back I
felt something was wrong so when I pulled up at the house my cousin told me to
come in the house and she was crying and somebody else said “she doesn’t know
yet do she” so I was really worried about my sister so I tried to run inside to
see what was wrong and she passed away. It’s been very hard for me to realize
that she is gone but I know that she is still here in spirit. She has gotten sick
and weak to really do anything but she made it through her birthday and she was
very happy. My advice to you all is to make sure you spend a lot of time with
your loved ones because you don’t know when it’s there last.

First Exam
Margo Gould
The first major
exam today was kind of confusing to me because I didn’t know how to put my
thoughts into a sentence to make sense. However, it went ok today I know that I
could’ve done better on my sentences. It met my expectations because I knew
that I would have to write a lot but not on every question. I would like to
have multiple choice questions on the test or maybe two short answers at the
end of the test. I prepared for the test by writing down all the definitions
down and reading them out loud so I can remember them good, I also close my
eyes and quiz myself or I ask my mom to quiz me so that I can be prepared for
the questions to the test. One of my techniques of studying is writing my notes
down repeatedly and saying them out loud it helps me remember. The part of my
preparation that was successful was that I remembered the definition of the
words and I remembered what I wrote down. The other part of the preparation would
be quizzing myself and asking and answering the questions that I think would be
on the test. I would change my studying time for next time because I really
wasn’t prepared for this test. I studied at the last minute and that’s probably
why I wasn’t so sure about my sentences. I’ll know to study and read more next
time around.
Dear Rollins,
I agree with the first quote at the
beginning of the video because it’s true that some people come from nothing but
still get ahead in life. They usually don’t really know how to earn money
because they always were given the money. They’ll just have to learn how to
earn the money and work hard at how to survive in the world. If you do come
from nothing you shouldn’t let that hold you back. The suggestions that he gave
us in the video were very good. We should be very single-minded because you
wouldn’t have to worry about anybody else. Being single-minded means that you
are set on one goal and that’ll be your own. Putting your mind to whatever that
you want to succeed in life can set that goal of you being successful. There are a lot of people that come from the
bottom and goes straight to the top because they are single-minded. People need
to realize that you’ve got what you got and there’s no turning back. I
personally disagree because you can always fix your mistakes and never do it
again. The younger you are the more single-minded you are. You should achieve
your goals while your still young and have monastic obsession stay motivated
and stymied while achieving that goal.

Introducing my life
I’m Margo Gould I’m 18 years of age and I come from a large
family. I was born and raised in Bryan, TX, I grew up with a family of two. There
was my mother and my sister I was the youngest in the family. My mother and my
sister is my whole support system. I’m very energetic and a family oriented
person. Although I’m young and I’ve had a lot of life challenges, however, I am
a person that likes to be in a positive environment. In my spare time, I like
to play basketball because I enjoy it and it keeps me active. It matters to me
because it calms me down from all of the stress that was given upon me. I am
very good and competitive at playing basketball. In spite of the challenges I’ve
faced in my life there are two goals that I’m aiming to achieve. Nursing is the
main goal that I want to achieve because that is the major that I have chosen
to come to college for because I want to learn more about the human body. I have
recently started classes college class and I am looking to take prerequisites
for nursing. The other goal is to produce music because I enjoy playing and
listening to music. I come from a music family who loves to sing and play instruments.
At the end of all of my accomplishments I want my whole entire family to be
there to help celebrate my achievements. There are ones that I’d really
appreciate to be there and they are the ones that inspired me to achieve my
goals. They are the reason why I made it that far in life because they kept me
motivated.
